In art class, we had to create a piece of art that showed what our identity is. This is mine. The words are lyrics to "Holding On To You" by Twenty One Pilots because that's my favorite band. I chose this song in particular because my friends and I always jam out to it when it comes on. The black figures at the bottom are some of my best friends. They are the ones who have helped to shape who I am today. They make me, me, and they mean the world to me.
For this artwork, I used watercolor for the background, sharpie for the lyrics, wire- patterned fabric for the fence, and black felt for the silhouettes of my friends. The reason I made certain words/phrases stand out was to highlight the lyrics that mean the most to me. I highlighted "Swat" because every time the song comes on, we always shout it because that's what Tyler does in the song; "You Belong To Me" is highlighted because, to me, it's saying "these people are my friends" but not in a possessive sort of way; "Entertain My Faith" is highlighted because it's repeated a lot in the song; "It's Our Hearts That Make The Beat" is highlighted because it represents how all of our hearts are connected emotionally.
This piece shows my identity by combining some things that I like: my best friends, favorite band, and my favorite colors.
